Research on the life expectancy of composite insulator aging

2024-08-19

At present, there are few studies on the life expectancy of composite insulator aging. When measuring the aging life of composite insulators, it is necessary to first clarify the life threshold, that is, the aging characteristic index of composite insulators corresponding to the critical life. Through the study of the aging mechanism and process of composite insulators, the relationship between the performance of composite insulators and aging time can be determined.

Determination of life threshold: It is currently difficult to clarify the life threshold of composite insulators. This is mainly because the factors that affect the aging life of composite insulators include the production process and operating environment of composite insulators in addition to the aging time. Due to the vast territory of the world, the operating environment of composite insulators is very different.

In addition, the manufacturing process and manufacturing level of composite insulators produced by different composite insulator manufacturers or even different batches of composite insulators produced by the same manufacturer will also be significantly different. Even for the same batch of products, there will still be obvious differences in their pollution accumulation capacity. The performance of the umbrella skirt material of the composite insulator will also be different, but the differences in hydrophobicity, elongation, hardness, etc. are not obvious.

The aging performance of composite insulators can be considered based on indicators such as hardness, hydrophobicity, dielectric strength, and elongation at break. The aging performance can be divided into level 0, level I, and level II, with the degrees of no obvious aging, slight aging, obvious aging, and severe aging, respectively. The study found that if the composite insulator is at the high-voltage end, the aging degree is more serious, and if the composite insulator is at the low-voltage end, the aging degree is relatively mild.

With the increase in the service life of the composite insulator, the aging degree of the composite insulator will gradually increase. The increase in the aging degree of the composite insulator is divided into three stages: the first is the slow growth stage, which generally lasts about 9 years; the second is the rapid growth stage, which lasts about 9-13 years; the third is the slow growth stage, which lasts about 13 years. Among the factors affecting the composite insulator, the operating years have the greatest impact on the service life of the composite insulator, followed by the electric field strength, and finally the operating environment.
